Caregiviers Marketplace - great rebates on the stuff you buy anyway!

I used to be of the opinion that I was too busy to do rebates. I thought my time was worth more than messing with filling out forms to get a few bucks back in the mail. When I realized how easy most rebates are to fill out I have changed my mind! Besides, it;s really fun to get little checks in the mail each week. Who doesn't like surprises?

One of my best discoveries has been The Caregiver's Marketplace. This site gives you cash back for a variety of products realated to caring for an elderly person or an infant. There is a cash back form available on their website. After you have registered for a Caregiver's account, simply print off the cash back form, and fill it out when you have purchased a minimum of 5 participating products. You must send your cash register receipts with the form, and you can send UPC's to speed up your rebatecheck, but it is not required. Here is a few examples of participating Caregiver's Marketplace Products and the rebates they offer:

Huggies Snug & Dry Jumbo pack $.75

Huggies Little Swimmers $.75

Nature Made (a variety of suppliments) $1

Ensure $1

Gold Bond Powder and Lotion $1

Balmex $1

Pair these rebates with great sales, and coupons, and it will add up fast!

Grocery Budget Shame

It is with much shame and disappointment that I post this entry.....

I recently decided set a budget of $400 a month for groceries and paper items. Since I do not work full time any longer, we really need to watch every penny. Keep in mind this is food, cleaning, paper goods, beauty items, diapers and formula (last month for formula). Since there are people out there that feed their family for as little as $40 a week, I though this was a completely reasonable goal- I BLEW PAST IT. I spent a whopping $729 in the month of August.
No, we don't eat steak and lobster every night. We do eat 90% of our meals at home and I cook a lot now. I have all kinds of excuses though - we entertained family and friends a few nights, I am waiting on rebates for many of the items I purchased, I went to Sam's Club to just buy charcoal and paid $40 extra to renew my membership, I stocked up on diapers at a low price.....I can keep going.....
Anyway you look at it, I have to do better. I am going to try my best to be UNDER budget for September with a goal of just $350 for the month. I will report in at the end of September. I certainly need some accountability!

Remember, your Homeland may also enforce the new rule of now duplicate Internet Printed Coupons.

There are always other great deals out there at Homeland for macth-ups. My store had LOTS of clearance items pulled when I went yesterday. Keep your eyes open!

Thanks Jenny_Hic at A Full Cup!

Bargain Blocked at Homeland

I discovered a new coupon rule at Homeland today that I am not too thrilled about. The checker (and the manager) said you can only use 1 of each of identical, internet printed coupons. Ones that are not internet printed can be used as many times as you like. Ugh! She has alread scanned 2 of my duplicates, but did not take 2 of my IP's for Peter Pan. There's $2 I lost. I still purchased the items because they counted toward my ConAgra catalina. I now I have done this before, but I guess they are enforcing this "new rule" now due to fraud.

Either way, it was a pretty good trip AND I got my $5 on your next shopping order catalina. I have a goal of getting the % at the bottom of the tapeto be 75% off. I hve only surpassed it once. This trip I saved 70%, not too shabby.

Here's my run down:

4x Marie Callenders Pasta Al Dente $2.50 each = $10 - 3x $.75 Q's doubled =$5.50 for 4

Hiland Dairy Sour Cream $1.25- $.45 IP doubled = $.35

Wishbone Dressing $1.66-$.75 IP doubled = $.16

2x Chinet Casuals Cups $2.19 each = $4.38 - 2x $1 IP doubled = $.38 for 2

2x Eddy's Ice Cream $1.99 each = $3.98

***This great was a sale specific to my store. These should have been FREE but I forgot to hand over my 2 Q's! Ugh! Will make another trip this week for free ice cream, that's a guarantee!

I Can't Believe It's Not Butter $1.79 -$.75 IP doubled = $.29

8 Continent Soy Milk $2.99 -$1 doubled = $1.99

Bananas $.53/lb = $.64

2 Glade spray $.99 each = $1.98 - $.75 doubled = $.48 for 2

3 Peter Pan $1.50 each = $4.50 - 2 x $.50 doubled = $2.50 for 3

Mt Olive Relish $1.79 - $.75 doubled = $.04

19 items = $19.84 with tax

Recieved $5 Catalina

Cost= $14.84

Not bad, but not my best!

Guest Post - Meal Planning by Cara Heard

Guest post by my friend Cara.
Cara has the meal planning thing nailed. I aspire to such organization!

I really have been trying to meal plan. Sometimes, like tonight, it goes out the window. Tonight Griffin was asking for tortillas, Jon's not here, I didn't feel like cooking; so we went to Taco Bell. Here is my post on meal planning:
Saving money with Meal Planning. It is best to go through your pantry and refrigerator and freezer to determine what ingredients you have in stock. Then you can determine what meals your family likes that involve those ingredients. I try to keep my pantry stocked with go to ingredients we always seem to use and try to always stock the freezer when go to meats go on sale. I have read several articles on meal planning and there are two different versions that people use. There is either a set schedule plan, where you eat the same types of meals on certain days or more of a free form plan. On the set schedule it could look something like this, Monday is Pasta night, Tuesday is Taco night, Wednesday is Breakfast night, Thursday is Asian night, Friday is Flexible night, Saturday is Salad night, Sunday is Pizza night. While I like that plan, I never seem to stick to it. So mine tends to be more of the free form variety. Last week was set up as this: Saturday, we had company so I cooked spaghetti all day, served it with salad, cheese bread and pound cake with strawberries and whipped cream and wine. I like to write it all out so that I a.) don’t forget anything and b.) it reminds me what I need to do the day before or earlier in the day, like making up the pound cake and buying the wine. Sunday, I had the whole day laid out since we had company still. Breakfast was waffles, eggs and bacon. Turns out we were too low on waffle mix to make that so we had toasted leftover pound cake instead with the leftover strawberries and whipped cream. I had planned to do grilled cheese sandwiches and salad for lunch and leftover spaghetti for dinner. Monday was sautéed lime chicken, with cilantro lime rice and black beans. Tuesday was oven “fried” chicken, leftover rice and steamed broccoli. Thursday was breakfast for dinner, since it is the only thing my husband really cooks so we had waffles, I had purchased the batter mix by then, hash browns, bacon and eggs. Friday was frozen pizza night for my boys since I was going to a girl’s night at a friend’s house. They ended up meeting a friend out for pizza at a restaurant though. So here is the breakdown of how I came to those decisions. For Saturday, I already had in my pantry, most of the ingredients for my spaghetti sauce and all the ingredients for the pound cake and the strawberries in my freezer. I had canned tomatoes, spices that I keep in my freezer which was recommended after my husband attended some food classes for work. They keep longer and as a bonus, it gave me more cupboard space. I also had noodles in the pantry and meat and cheese toast in my freezer and garlic. So all I had to pick up was red onion, bell pepper and salad ingredients and a carton of whipping cream. For Sunday, I thought we had pancake mix to make waffles (turns out not enough so we improvised), and already had eggs and bacon since my husband had brought home a lot of bacon from work, he works at a pork processing facility. For lunch I had bread, cheese and the leftover salad from the previous night’s meal. And dinner was leftover spaghetti. So I needed to buy nothing for Sunday at all. Monday, I always have rice and black beans in the pantry, I had chicken breast in the freezer I had bought when it was on sale, so all I needed to buy was cilantro and lime. Tuesday, more frozen chicken, this time tenders, I had corn flakes in the freezer from the last time I had done this recipe, had parmesan cheese and eggs in fridge. So all I needed to purchase was broccoli. Thursday, I bought some pancake mix at store for the waffles and had the rest already. We had a frozen pizza in the freezer he could have warmed if he had wanted it. So basically all I needed to buy was produce to round out my dishes. Good luck and I hope this saves you money and time. Doesn’t everyone hate figuring out what to cook every single night? This way you only have to plan on one day and the rest of the week is easy as pie. Hmmm… pie sounds good. Wish I had the ingredients for it now!

Thanks, Cara! thegriffinshow.blogspot.com

Drugstore.com

I have been a fan of Drugstore.com for quite some time now. If you haven't checked it out yet, here are a few great facts about Drugstore.com:

  • A huge product selection. They have a great natural store with everything under the sun. For someone like me, who lives in a rural area, I don't have access to some of these products elsewhere.
  • 5% back - Drugstore.com gives you 5% of the total of your pruchase back to use on a future purchase.
  • FREE shipping on orders of $50 or more. On your first purchase, free shipping is on an order of just $25.
  • Beauty.com - this is Drugstore.com's sister site. You can order high-end beauty items here and it goes in your drugstore.com cart, counting toward yoru $50 minimum ofr free shipping.
  • No sales tax - for those of us in most states, there is no sales on your purchase.
  • 6% back through Ebates.com. Purchase through ebates. (See the sidebar for more info)and get 6% of your purchase back later as cash!
  • Great sales- Drugstore.com runs some good sales from time to time. Pari this with the 5% cash back, ebates rebate, free shipping and no tax, and it as up to great savings! I actually bought my Medela pump here before my first child was bron. They had a lower price than any store I had seen.

Why I Love Walgreens

Photo of my Walgreens Trip Today

Walgreens has a great Register Reward deal going on through August 22. You get $5 in RR when you spend $25 on anything. This is BEFORE manufacturer coupons. I cashed in on some essentials, and a few clearnace items. Here's the breakdown:
Merchandise value before sale prices, coupons and tax $52.34
Discount for advertised savings - $11.75
Coupons used - $16.07
Register Rewards used - $16.00
Tax +$3.30
Cash spent for 16 items $8.52
Register Rewards Earned +$10
PROFIT $1.48!!!!

I love shopping trips like this. :)

Ebates - why I love it and you will too!

Since starting on my quest to save even more moeny for my family, I found Ebates. Ebates.com is cash back site that pays you for shopping online. It may sound sketchy, but it it TOTALLY legit. There are actually many websites out there that do this, but Ebates seems to be the best for store that I frequent.

All you have to to is register for an Ebates account, and then visit Ebates BEFORE you visit the store where you are going to shop online. Ebates creates a ticket number for you and tracks your purchase. A percentage of what you spend online will be credited back to your Ebates account. Another pus? If there are any coupon codes available for the various store represented on ebates, the coupons will be listed on the Ebates site. Never miss out on free shipping again!

I just received my first quarterly ebates paymentvia paypal. It was for $18.17. Not bad for pruchases I would have made anyway.

Here are just a few of the ebates stores and the % they offer back at each:

Target 4%

Drugstore.com 16%

Ebay 2%

The North Face 8%

Kohls 4%

JC Penney 5%

Sephona 8%

Travelocity 1%

Barnes & Noble 8%

Walgreens 101

This is for the new bargain shoppers out there. I was skeptical of shopping for low prices at Walgreens (WAGS), becuase at first glance, it is not a great deal. I wanted to check it out further though sicne there are Walgreens stores near where I live. HOWEVER, with a little research, I realized that you can get lots of things for free, cheap or even make money at Walgreens. It is worth your time!
Here's some basics:

  • Walgreens offers Register Rewards these are catalinas (the coupons that print at the register when you check out) for some purchases. You usually have 2 weeks to spend your RR and they are good on anything in the store unless otherwise noted. (read the fine print.)This week for example, there is a body wash advertised for $3.99 with a $4 RR. I purchased this and used a $2 Manufacturer coupon, paying only $2 out of pocket. I then received $4 in RR. A $2 money maker!

  • There are rules with Register Rewards: You can only do one advertised Register Reward deal per transaction (meaning in the expample I gave, if I bought 2 body washes, only 1 RR would have printed.) Also, if you spend it on an identical item, no RR will print. Meaning if I tried to go in a second day and buy another body wash with the RR I just reeived, another will not print. The amount of RR you are spending can also not exceed the amount of your pruchase. Meaning, you can use a $10 RR on a $9.99 purchase - you would have to spend at least $10.

  • Stacking coupons: On a single item you can use a Walgreens store coupon AND a Manufacturer coupon. This = some great prices some times. Look for WAGS coupons in the weekly circular, WAGS coloring books for kids, and speical flyers at the front of the store.

  • Look for clearance items. You can still use Manufacturer coupons on clearance items. This is a great time of year to buy sunscreen an insect repellant. WAGS is trying to clear their shelves of these items and the savings can be huge or even FREE!

  • You cannot have more coupons than items. WAGS counts RR as coupons for this purchase. Be sure to count the items in your cart before checking out. If you have 4 Manufact. coupons, 2 WAGS store coupons and are spending 2 RR, then you must be purchasing at least 8 items to purchase.

  • For previews of other upcoming circulars (you will want to plan how to spend thos RR!) and everything else WAGS, visit www.iheartwags.com. This is a great site that spells out every possible scenerio for shopping WAGS.

On a side note - Rite Aid and CVS stores also have great deals and are worth checking out if you live near one. Do your homework and save big!

I received my set in the mail last week and it included 2 coupons for $1/1 Farmland meat. This equalled 2 packs of FREE bacon for me at Homeland since it was on sale BOGO. Worth the 20 seconds it too to register online for sure!

A few more great Homeland deals this week that you won't want to miss!

I found a few more great Homeland Grocery Coupon match-ups that I left out of the previous Homeland Post. Remember, Homeland DOUBLES couposn up to $1 every day!
Activa Yogurt on sale for $2 - $1/1 coupon from SS 7/26 = FREE!
Totinos Pizza Rolls on sale for $.99 each - $.55 /2 coupon form here = $.45 a package!
Blue Bunny Ice cream 1.75 Quarts on sale for $2.88 - $1/1 coupon from here
(register to print your Q) = $.88!
A few reminders about shopping at Homeland:
  • They often run promtions like "2 for $4 " or "10 for $10." You DO NOT have to purchase the number of items advertised to get the sale price. Meaning, in a 10/$10 sale, you can buy one item and it will still just be $1. Nto all stores have this policy, but Homeland does!
  • Sometimes Homeland runs a store coupon in their weekly circular. This week there is one for Kellogg's cereal. You can stack these with a manufacturer's coupon. Meaning, 2 coupons for 1 item and big savings for you!
  • Homeland ads are available online on their website. You can print browse the weekly circular, and print grocery lists and coupons. The ad is updated early Wed. morning on the website. If you you live in a small town like me, and wait until Friday or Saturday to shop, there is a good chance the shelves will be empty of advertised sale items.

$.75 Formula!

I had another great Target find on my trip today. Enfamil Next Step REdy to Feed Formular was on clearnace for just $4.75 for 1 qt. (reg. $6.79) I used the 3 of my $4 Enfamil Next Step checks to bring this to just $.75 a can!
I found this same deal at Toys R Us last month. They must be getting rid of the Next Step in Ready to Feed. My 10 month old and I will take the savings!

Cheap Organic Salsa at Target!

I am a big fan of buying organic and natural products when it cost effective, and I had great find on my trip to Target today. Muir Glen Organic Salsa was on clearance for $2.12 a jar (reg. $4.24) I bought 2 jars and used the $1/2 coupon from here and got each jar for just $1.62. That's 62% off regular price!
We use salsa like crazy on our house, so this was a great buy. Can't wait to try it. Hope you can find some at your local Target. The Target clearance racks are always great opportuintes to match low prices with coupons.

Welcome to my world of saving!

However, as a new stay-at-home/work-from-home mom, there are a lot of ways from couponing and beyond that I have foumf to stretch a dollar. I hope I can share these with you. For those in Oklahoma and Kansas, I plan to outline the weekly great coupon matchups at Homeland Stores. You can always sxore soe freebies with their double up to $1 manufacterer coupon policy!
